Kona, a dolphin, swims free off the coast of Hawaii. She becomes entangled and injured in a ghost net floating free under the water. Kona is rescued and taken to an aquarium to heal. Melanie, a sixteen-year-old cancer survivor works part-time at the aquarium. When the two accidentally meet, it is an instant bond between the teen and the dolphin. They have two problems, Kona is not acclimating to her new environment, and Melanie’s cancer returns. Both are life-threatening situations. As Melanie struggles with falling in love with her coworker, Chase, losing friends she loves, and the return of her cancer, she puts her own life on the back burner to save the life of her new friend, Kona.
